Why Me?

I sure hope this doesn't come across as too arrogant but.... I'm a writer and you are not.

Sure, most of you will be able to express yourselves within the confines of your careers - interoffice memos and so forth - but resume is a different type of structure. It's taken me over a decade to develop the skills that I bring to your project, and that decade is backed with not only a degree in broadcast journalism, but als an additional 15 years of media writing experience.

Here are the main reasons for you to hire a professional copy writer such as myself:

1. Lifetime Certification from the nation's oldest certifying organization - the Professional Association of Resume Writers.

2. Consistent selection for publication. Since 2002, sixteen pieces of my work (and counting) have been selected for national publication. See my bio for details.

3. I understand key words and other intricacies of Internet job hunting. At your request, you may have a version of your final document in text and in a scannable form.

4. Don't get confused by the 30-second rule. It's only partially true that HR professionals and Recruiters only spend 30 seconds reading your resume. In fact, a savvy recruitment pro will understand if you've got the basic qualifications within 30 seconds, but once you're in the read stack, your resume will get read. You'd better be telling a great story and give them something great to read, or it's Form Letter Time for your application.

5. Newspapering rules apply. First, it's the top half of the front page that sells the newspaper, and it's the top half of the first page that will sell your resume. Second, hit 'em with the Who, What, When, Where, Why and How of your job description, then cut to the chase and talk about where you've been excellent, made an impact, set the pace or contributed to the betterment of your organization / department / position. Keep your sentences short.

6. My friend, who is a Recruiter, says... Your friend the Recruiter is a salesperson. It's your friend s job to sell the company on you, and to sell you on the position. Period. Most recruiters don't know any more about writing or structuring a resume than you do. Hire a certified professional instead and you'll be a lot happier.

7. My friend, who is a Recruiter, says (they) won't read a resume unless it is in the correct format. (Part II) There are a lot of lazy recruiters out there and I suggest you separate your business and friendship. A well-written and well-positioned resume brings joy to a recruiters heart - regardless of the format. There really is no such thing as the correct format, but see number five (above) for some clarification.

Why use my services? Because I understand how a resume should be written, and with over a decade's experience writing through the executive level, I understand what questions to ask you to fully develop your story of excellence and capability.
