Biographical Sketch

Bill Murdock The Employment Coach - is a nationally recognized writer and authority in the resume and employment coaching industry.

Bill brings an exceptionally unique portfolio of skills and experiences to the table including a reputation as one of the finest news directors to ever work in West Virginia (references still available), a top flight sales professional with national recognition for presentation skills with Volkswagen and, today, an industry-leading role on the national certification team for the Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches (PARW/CC).  In addition, Bill has contributed 16 publication-quality resumes to nearly a dozen resume anthologies edited by noted authors Wendy Enelow and Louise Kursmark (JIST), delivered a major seminar on sales to the 2001 PARW/CC national conference and has contributed five articles two on sales methodology and the resume industry, and three on DISC-based strategies in resume development, interviewing and cultural analysis to the Spotlight, the PARW/CC national publication.

Bill's love affair with words began with his first job in high school, the afternoon announcer at KARY in rural eastern Washington State.  Within three months he persuaded the program director to add country music to the Perry Como / Patty Paige mix a change that would be total within a year and remain in place for the next three decades.  From that point, Bill and Radio were one.  He served with Armed Forces Radio in Asmara, Ethiopia, paid for room, board and tuition working in radio while enrolled in Washington State University's prestigious Edward R. Morrow school of communications where he distinguished himself as the Student News Director for KWSU (1260 AM) Radio, one of the leading broadcast facilities in eastern Washington State.

In 1975, Bill became News Director of WKWK-FM in Wheeling, West Virginia at the time, considered to be one of the Top 5 Medium Market rock-n-roll stations in the nation. Against nine local signals, WKWK held a jaw-dropping 52% of the total market share.  The challenge?  Bill faced Columbia Pictures-owned WWVA with a four-person staff, numerous Peabody's and a John F. Kennedy award for journalism.  With a crisp, tabloid-like writing style, an aggressive early morning breaking news gathering strategy and a requirement that each story be re-written prior to broadcast for freshness.  Two years later, after producing four national scoops for ABC News, and dominating the overnight non-governmental breaking news category, WWVA replaced its morning team and instituted counter-programming to address Bill's impact.

In 1980, Bill left radio and began what would be a 15 year career in outside sales, initially accepting a position at WWVA where he distinguished himself by producing some of the largest individual sales orders in history, and sustained revenues in a rapidly deteriorating economy.

In 1984, after three years with WWVA, and a two year stint in commercial lines insurance, Bill joined Neiman and Associates of Texas as Director of Communications and Client relations, a position he kept until they dissolved in 1989.  Among the highlights:  Bill successfully developed an insurance strategy for Crown Life that mitigated exchange rate risks in foreign currency lending, and participated on the financial work-out team that allowed the Sullivan family to retain ownership of the New England Patriots.

Returning to sales in 1989, Bill spent the next six years in automotive sales, distinguishing himself twice in sales presentation competitions.  In 1991, he won the Southwest Regional Walkaround Championship for Volkswagen twice, on the Passat and the Jetta, as well as winning numerous district awards for Subaru.

In 1996, Bill joined Resumes Plus and, under the mentorship of the late Pat McGrath, began applying his gifted writing and wordsmithing abilities to the field of resume and employment coaching.  He joined PARW/CC and gained Certification in 2001 and was elevated to the Certification Committee in 2006.

Bill resides in Dallas, is a devotee of PBS, most especially the Saturday cooking shows, enjoys Guinness on Mondays at the Addison Flying Saucer and is rumored to be a Cat Whisperer.
